2020 Courtney Benham Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Valley, California
14.5% ABV

Tasting Conditions

At home, on a winter’s eve. December 2024.

Character Profile: One Wine, Two Homes

55% Sonoma
45% Napa

Sourced across different vineyards, Courtney Benham’s entry-level wines offer solid alternatives to pricier Cab Sauvs. I couldn’t find specific details, but this one could be (at least partially) sourced from the Los Carneros region, the only AVA (American Viticultural Area) to straddle both Napa and Sonoma.

This one’s pronounced aromas include chocolate, toffee, cinnamon/baking spice, black currant, cranberry, black cherry, cedar, tobacco leaf.

Who Might Like This

Anyone who appreciates a workmanlike Cab Sauv without having to take out a second mortgage to afford it.

Age-ability

Can drink now, but has potential to age.

Price Point

$20+
Newer vintages are available.

  • Deep ruby. Pronounced aromas.

Dry. High tannins, high acidity, full body, long finish, high alcohol.
